I’m flying out to Paris next week (eek!). Normally, I only bring carry-on luggage, so space is a premium. I also don’t want my personal item jammed, so I can easily grab what I need in flight without digging around in my bag.

Everything on this list meets my top two priorities for travel-day essentials:

  1. Useful
  2. High-quality

Here’s what has earned a spot in my personal item.

The comfiest travel set (a Spanx AirEssentials dupe)

If you’ve been eyeing the Spanx AirEssentials but can’t justify the price, this dupe is for you. It’s so comfy, the kind of outfit you can sit in for hours and still look put together when you walk off the plane. And the quality has surprised me: mine has held up really well.

My go-to sweater (with BIG pockets)

I am always cold on planes, and this trip we’re landing somewhere chilly, so this sweater is coming with me. I’ve had mine for several years now, and it still looks great, which says a lot about how it’s made. Bonus: the pockets are BIG. Phone, boarding pass, lip balm, all within reach.

Fight that jet-lagged look

Long flights have a way of showing up on my face. This is what I carry with me to attempt to look decent when I step off of a long flight.

The lip oil balm I keep repurchasing

I’ll be honest: it’s a little pricey. But it has become my go-to, and one tube lasts a long time, so it evens out. The quality is great, and it adds just a little color without looking overdone. Perfect for a long travel day when you want to look fresh with zero effort.

Skincare that survives dry airplane air

Cabin air is brutal on skin, especially if yours is sensitive like mine. This one is gentle enough for sensitive skin and keeps my skin dewy and protected through dry flights and long travel days.

The charger I never board without

Helene In Between recommended this charger, and I buy what she tells me to because I know she puts thought into all her recommendations. I’ve been stuck on a flight with a seat plug that didn’t work or in an airport with no outlets available, and I’m not doing that again. Now I never board a plane without one.

Ready for takeoff

That’s everything in my in-flight bag: comfy, cozy, charged, and fresh-faced (ish) on landing.
